Refilling isn't just about topping up your shampoo or grabbing a cheeky eco-friendly laundry detergent - it is about rewriting the future of our planet, one pour at a time. With plastic pollution at record highs and recycling rates stubbornly low, refills need to step in as the hero of this sustainability story. Backed by solid science (and a big dose of common sense), choosing to refill instead of re-buy is one of the simplest ways to cut waste, slash carbon emissions, and keep our oceans a little less 'plastic porridge' and a lot more of the deep blue paradise places they are.
Less Plastic = Cleaner Planet:
Plastic pollution is no joke, between 9-14% of all plastic gets recycled, whilst the rest ends up in landfills, incinerators, or the oceans where it hangs around for ages and impacts the wildlife (1).
Just a 10% rebound in reusable plastic products could reduce ocean-bound plastic waste by 50% (2).
Huge Climate Bonus:
Making plastic isn't cheap, it is costly for the finances and for the planet.
If refilling & reusing was made more 'trendy', we could reduce plastic packaging by up to 80%, and carbon emissions by as much as 90% for personal care items (1, 3, 4).
Reusable packaging (over time) can reduce the impact of global warming by 75% & the amount of waste produced by 95% if taken seriously (5)
Reuse Beats Recycling (most of the time):
Recycling is truly magnificent, but it is incredibly expensive. Recycling is becoming more and more ineffective & thus the impact is dwindling. Refilling & Reusing is going to be the big player in reducing the amount of plastic we are leaving behind (1).
Refill = Ocean Rescue Mission:
Just a 10% shift to refillable soft drink bottles could keep 4.5 - 7.6 billion plastic bottles out of the ocean every year (6). This is a serious impact & something we have in our future plans to tackle.
It is Good for the People & the Planet:
Refill shops empower sustainable choices that are actually maintainable. A recent refill movement shows that eco refill shops can help reduce emissions, support local brands, bolster communities, and save you money - sometimes 30-50% savings when refilling instead of buying new (4).
Refilling isn't just about topping up your shampoo, it is about moving towards a cleaner future for our planet. It is where smart science meets everyday action: You swap toxin heavy one-time plastics for planet friendly, low-tox, minimal plastic refills. Fewer packaging fights climate breakdown, saves resources, and keeps oceans (and wallets) happy.
